The IUI Procedure

Intrauterine insemination (IUI) is performed by introducing a prepared sperm suspension directly into the uterine cavity, bypassing cervical barriers and reducing the distance to the oocyte. Following sperm preparation, the sample is loaded into a syringe and attached to a sterile IUI catheter. The catheter is gently advanced through the cervical canal under direct control, allowing accurate deposition of motile sperm near the fundus. Selection of an appropriate catheter and syringe is critical to ensure smooth passage, minimize trauma, and achieve consistent clinical outcomes.
