Sperm Counting Chamber DRM-600
Sperm Counting Chamber DRM-600
For sperm counts in undiluted specimens. The CELL-VU® Cytometer consists of a standard (3 x 1″), specially-designed glass slide and a coverslip with the counting grid laser-etched into its surface. Disposal of the entire apparatus eliminates cleaning and minimizes clinician exposure to body fluids. Both the slide and coverslip are marked to ensure correct use. The coverslip’s 1 x 1 mm grid is divided into 100, 0.1 mm areas and is thin enough to use under high magnification without special adapters or reticles. The slide consists of two chambers (for dual determinations), each with a depth of 20 µm. This depth is optimal for sperm cells to form in a monolayer, movement is unencumbered, motility can be assessed and counts are made easily.
Product Benefits
Disposability
Cell-VU® products are disposable. To date, there are no other disposable counting chambers available for this market with the Cell-VU® grid pattern. All other forms of manual cell counting are performed via non-disposable systems. These non-disposable systems consist of glass chambers, which require cleaning after each use, are at risk of shattering, and are considered potential occupational hazards. Using the disposable Cell-VU® product increases accuracy and eliminates the occupational hazards associated with tainted broken glass.
Safety
With growing concerns over infectious diseases, clinical labs move towards disposability wherever possible. Disposability minimizes clinician exposure to bodily fluids and creates a safer work environment. In fact, OSHA mandates that labs limit exposure to bodily fluids whenever possible. Using the disposable Cell-VU® product significantly decreases the chances of exposure to unsafe bodily fluids.
Value
Disposable products save time and money. Reusable slides must be cleaned between uses. Associated labor costs are dramatically cut with the introduction of disposable slides. Furthermore, Cell-VU®’s pre-stained slides take an entire step out of the testing process. Before this revolutionary introduction, all body fluid samples were separately stained before viewing. Extra steps slow testing and create unnecessary added costs. Using Cell-VU® eliminates extra steps, thus saving time and money.
Accuracy
Extensive testing and independent verification by numerous internationally acclaimed researchers have verified that Cell-VU®’s counting chambers produce more accurate results. Specifically, the grid pattern on the DRM-600 Sperm Counting facilitate specific, accurate results for the cell type counted. Cell-VU®’s variations of grid patterns distinctively address the needs of fertility labs for maximum effectiveness and fewer lab errors.
Simpler and easier to use
All Cell-VU® coverslips are thin enough to use under high magnification without special adapters or reticles. Unlike other products, Cell-VU® slides with grids do not necessitate the use of other equipment or adaptors.
Step 1
Ensure the CELL-VU® name on the cover glass is facing the observer as the grid is etched on the reverse side.
Step 2
Place one cover glass onto the slide as shown in Figure A.
The cover glass should cover approximately three quarters of one of the sampling areas, as shown in Figure B.
Step 3
Mix the sample thoroughly just before pipetting.
Pipette one drop (approximately 4 microliters) of specimen into the edge of the sampling area so that it fills the sampling area by capillary action as shown in Figure C.
Step 4
Move the cover glass into final position so that the circle on the cover glass is centered within the circle of the sampling area (Figures D and E).
This will eliminate air bubbles from the counting area.
Step 5
SPERM CONCENTRATION
Isolate and view the CELL-VU® grid. This grid is divided into 100 small boxes each 0.1 x 0.1 mm.For undiluted sperm count all motile and non-motile sperm within 10 small boxes of this grid. Divide this number by 2. This result is the concentration of sperm in millions/ml.
SPERM MOTILITY
Count both motile sperm and non-motile sperm within 10 small boxes of the grid. Divide total sperm (motile + non-motile) by the total motile count. Multiply by 100 to establish the percentage of motile sperm.
