The selection of healthy sperm is critical to the success of assisted reproduction procedures (ICSI, IUI, IVF). Yet the most commonly used methods of selecting sperm rely on centrifugation, which has been proven to cause DNA damage and decreased motility, two of the most common factors in failed fertilization, increased risk of abnormal embryo development and early loss of pregnancy.
Developed by Dr. Utkan Demirci and his team at the Demirci BAMM Labs at Harvard Medical School/Brigham & Women’s Hospital and Stanford Medicine, ZyMōt devices mimic nature to facilitate the separation and preparation of the best performing sperm for ART procedures, while eliminating the need for time-consuming sample preparation and sperm damaging centrifugation. Even low-quality semen samples have been shown to yield collected samples that demonstrate a high concentration of progressively motile sperm, with normal morphology.
ZyMōt Sperm Separation Devices can be used in nearly any clinical setting and require no sample preparation, no extensive training and fewer steps to complete, with less materials required. Incredibly efficient and scalable, ZyMōt devices can reduce hands-on tech time by as much as 80% when compared to density gradient centrifugation, making it incredibly easy to collect more of the healthiest and best performing sperm for use in ART procedures.
The ZyMōt Starter Pack is comprised of three each of the three ZyMōt device models: ZyMōt ICSI, ZyMōt Multi (850μl) and ZyMōt Multi (3ml). This combination package provides embryologists, andrologists and other fertility clinic personnel the opportunity to use and evaluate each of the three ZyMōt device models with patient cases before making further commitment to one or more of the ZyMōt device models:
The ZyMōt ICSI has 5 micro channels; each accommodating 2μL of semen. More than one micro channel is available to accommodate multiple separations. Each channel has an inlet port for applying the semen sample and an outlet port for collecting the motile sperm. The ports are connected by a fluid-filled micro channel in which the separating occurs. Untreated semen is added through the inlet port. After a period of time, the separated sperm are collected from the outlet port.
The ZyMōt Multi devices employ a patented, single-use design that separates the best performing sperm by mimicking the pathway within the female reproductive tract. ZyMōt Multi is available in two processing volumes: 850µl and 3ml:
The ZyMōt Multi (850μl) features an inlet port that communicates with the lower sample chamber. Simply deposit untreated semen into the inlet port and incubate for 30 minutes. During incubation, the healthiest, most motile sperm make their way through a microporous filter and into the upper collection chamber, where they can be easily captured and removed via the outlet port. Once removed, simply discard the ZyMōt Multi (850μl) device.
The ZyMōt Multi (3ml) also features an inlet port that communicates with the lower sample chamber. Simply deposit untreated semen into the inlet port and incubate for 30 minutes.
