WEST provides an international training program for the next generation of clinical embryologists. If you have a BS degree in any life science, you would qualify to be trained to become an embryologist.

WEST is providing a desperately needed service in the field of embryology. We are recruiting recent graduates with a BS in any life science to become fully trained embryologists. The demand for trained embryologists is high and the supply is low. Currently, the trend is that a large number of lab directors and senior embryologists will be retiring in the coming years leaving the demand even higher. This adds to the rising number of labs already short staffed with nowhere to find trained embryologists. Labs are being forced to hire untrained embryologists and attempt to train in-house without the skills or time to do so.

WEST offers the only program in the US where a recent college graduate can, upon completion of the 3-month course, become a fully trained embryologist from the ground up. The extensive hours in the laboratory and breadth of knowledge offered to WEST participants prepares them to walk into any laboratory and perform all tasks at a fully functioning level.

WEST also offers 1 -2-week intensive training courses for an embryologist with basic training. The WEST goal is to be to provide extensive hands-on time as well as full knowledge in the science behind the work so participants are not simply bench technicians, rather, highly knowledgeable and intelligent scientists.

WEST will set you up for success and can match you with a laboratory for employment. As an embryologist for 25 years, Debbie Venier’s extensive training skills and reputation are well-known. Debbie developed the Cal Poly training program and successfully trained over 37 clinical embryologists in the 10 years she taught applied embryology. She has been invited by many different companies, societies, and embryology groups to speak and train embryologists both in the US and all over the world. Her network in the field is wide and many laboratories seeking another embryologist turn to Debbie for employees.

Debbie will work with all participants to ensure they are employed in a laboratory that fits their abilities and sets them up for a successful career in Embryology.

Courses Available

FULL TRAINING- 3 MONTHS (NO EXPERIENCE REQUIRED) ($20,000)

This course will offer the full gamut of skills for a completely trained embryologist. Beginning with the basics of female and male reproduction and endocrinology, sterile technique through the high tech procedures of ICSI and Biopsy. Students will have extensive hands on skills training each day with documentation of each of their tasks. Evaluations will be performed on a regular basis to determine proficiency before moving on to the next level of training. Students will learn both bench techniques as well as a thorough understanding and depth of knowledge in the science behind all embryology techniques. This intensive training course is equivalent to two years of training on the job. A non-refundable 50% Deposit required to hold your spot. Full fee is due 5 days before onset of course.

This course meets Monday thru Friday 8am to 4pm.  Over 440 hours of hands on training. There is a max of 12 students in this course.

1-WEEK ICSI COURSE ($5,000)

This is a 40-hour course that will bring an embryologist to a fully trained competent level before returning to their lab. Each student will have a minimum of 20 hours of time on the manipulator with one on one training to perfect their skills. Students will have experience with over 100 eggs to ICSI and document development post-manipulation. Upon completion of this course, the student will be ready to return to their lab to test their abilities with human eggs.

A non-refundable 50% Deposit required to hold your spot. Full fee is due 5 days before onset of course.

1-WEEK BIOPSY COURSE ($5,000)

This is a 40-hour course for an embryologist to become proficient in embryo biopsy. Each student will have a minimum of 20 hours of time on the manipulator with one on one training to perfect their skills. Students will have experience with over 50 embryos to biopsy and document development post-manipulation. At the completion of this course, the student will be ready to return to their lab to test their abilities with human embryos.

A non-refundable 50% Deposit required to hold your spot. Full fee is due 5 days before onset of course.

TRAIN THE TRAINER

This is a 2-5 day training session for existing senior embryologists to learn training skills for more effective team training. Not all senior embryologists are natural trainers. This session will allow them to train during the three-month courses Vit week, ICSI week, or Biopsy week assisting with active trainees and working with WEST trainers to perfect their skills for different types of training. They will learn details for training protocols, evaluations, processes, and catering their style to the needs of the trainees and your lab. Cost is $500/day, Or $2000/5 days.
